Brooklyn's First Month

We were all happy to bring Brooklyn home the the Baldwin house. She spent most of her first month sleeping of course. Not sure how she was able to do that with her very loud brothers!! Guess she will learn to sleep through anything. She was able to sleep for some good stretches at night even at such a young age. At her 2 week appointment, the doctor told me it was ok now to let her sleep for 4 hours. I didn't tell him she had slept almost 6 the night before. Of course this didn't always happen, but she was able to go 4-5 hours most nights which was great for a newborn. Being the third time around, I wasn't too worried about waking her up in the middle of the night like you are told to do during the first few weeks. She was gaining weight like a champ.

She received many kisses from her brother Ben. He was constantly giving her kisses on her head and feet and Blake offered many as well. The first week we were home, Ben and Brent got sick with what appeared to be a cold, but the swine flu was going around like crazy. I was a little worried and shipped them off to the doctor for the flu test which was thankfully negative. Poor Brooklyn received her first cold the second week of her life and it was pitiful to her her cough and be congested! Thankfully it was just a cold with no fever. Keeping her germ filled brothers away from her was certainly a chore since they love to be close to their new sister and give her lots of love.

Since this is the only type of scrapbooking I will probably ever do, I wanted to have a separate post of our family and friends who were there with us at the hospital. We are truly blessed with such a wonderful support system. Love you guys. Quick note...Aunt Jackie came to visit shortly after we got settled into our room, and I guess the drugs were still so good that I wasn't thinking of getting a picture. Also, Landon (my sister's oldest) was diagnosed with the swine flu the same day Brooklyn was born. Then a week or so after that, Peyton (sister's middle son) was diagnosed with the swine flu as well. So needless to say, Shara wasn't around during our hospital stay and Brooklyn didn't meet her cousins until around 3-4 weeks after she was born.

Brooklyn Joyce Baldwin

Brooklyn Joyce Baldwin was born on September 15 at 7:43 A.M. She was 6 lbs 14 oz and 19 1/4 in long. She's absolutely beautiful. Everything with her birth went well. After they cleaned her up and brought her to me she was very awake and looking all around even with the very bright OR lights. Her brothers and the rest of the family met us in the recovery room. Blake was instantly into checking her out and Ben was unsure at first. I think he was more worried about why mom was in a hospital bed with all these wires connected to her. He definitely warmed up when the boys came to visit later on in the day. Brooklyn and I made the most out of our hospital stay. Our nurses were great and took good care of us. Her jaundice levels were a little high and her weight had dropped a lot, but both issues resolved themselves pretty quickly. We enjoyed many visitors (which I will blog about next) and my dad made sure I was supplied with many outside meals to avoid the hospital food. Blake and Ben loved to come visit us and hold their little sister. Ben was definitely glad to be able to claim the title of Big Brother. The hospital stay was great, but it was nice to get home and begin a new chapter in our lives as a family of 5.
